Never Before -Top
I just fell in love with a girl I hardly know, I've never done that before. So darling excuse me if I am intruding, some beauty is too hard to ignore. These feelings I would share if I could just get over there, but my feet are stuck to the floor. I just fell in love with a girl I hardly know and I've never done that before. Sitting here just drinking beer while my heart is pounding, trying to find the perfect line, but I don't like the way they're sounding. "Hey diddle diddle, kitty and the fiddle, I'll be the dish if you'll be the spoon." I love your mom, I love your dad, even though I've never met them. I've already arranged both the names of our two unborn children. I'd like to know where you'd like to go with me on our honeymoon. I just fell in love with a girl I hardly know, now I don't know what to do. My heart went pitter-pat, then I blacked out after that, and I saw you when I came back to. You helped me to my feet and offered me a seat, an offer I couldn't refuse. I just fell in love with a girl I hardly know and I don't know what to do. Sitting here just drinking beer, for what felt like forever. I just assumed when you entered the room, we'd never be together. A twist of fate now I conversate with the prettiest girl that I've ever seen. What a match right off the bat I find myself here thinking. I buy a round for the love I found, Shiners what she's drinking. I close my eyes, to my surprise I realize this is all just a dream. Day dream. Day dream. I just fell in love with a girl I hardly know, I've never done that before. My heart is all I've got, besides these here impure thoughts, that only you can make pure. Cat has got my tongue, and he's had it all night long. Even breathing is a chore. I just fell in love with a girl I hardly know, and I've never done that before.

As a big fan of SHINER bock beer, I wanted to write a song that mentions my love of the Texas beer... and Texas women. A song of old and new pick up lines...
I have had people say "man you can play guitar", but what they are refering to is the Dobro that Korey is playing. He steals this one. |
Either Aura -Top
Hey there baby, maybe we could just sit here and talk for a while? Maybe we can show each other how we feel without saying a word. Using my senses I break down your defenses and enter your world. Now passion says that it's time for both of us to unwind in each others arms. Oh when our auras intertwine, oh suddenly all the stars in the sky are aligned, we go around the world in three quarters time. Just imagine what will happen if we pooled our minds. Hey there baby, I can't help but notice your little grin. Is there something I can do for you my dear, or do for you again? Trespass upon the Amazing, in your eyes I'm gazing. Love flowing like the Nile. There's no way to measure, I'm paralyzed with pleasure. Oh come and ride my smile. Chorus. Walls would fall. Seas would part. Constellations made up of stars, would rearrange to spell your name up in the sky if we put our minds to it. Hey there baby, why don't you come over and crawl under my skin. It seems I've got my foot at heaven's gates again, won't you let me in? I've come to this conclusion, we've redefined perfection. Oh wouldn't you agree? As the morning starts to creep in, our conversation deepens, but not as deep as I'd like to be. Chorus. Walls would fall. Seas would part. Constellations made up of stars, would rearrange to spell your name up in the sky if we put our minds to it.

I am a big fan of the Dave Matthews Band, and I decide to challenge myself to write a DMB song. Key ingrediants: fiddle (THANK YOU KOREY SIMEONE) and one sexual inuendo after another. I got a great kick out of my mom commenting on the "Come and ride my smile" line. I guess its not as subtle as I thought.
This was my attempt to get panties throw at me, no panties yet, but I've had other things thrown.
Korey steals this one as well.
Junebugs gives me just enough Carter Beauford, Thank you.
Chepo Pena was awesome!!!
I have a sister song to this one called "Darlin", that will be available soon.

Just Friends -Top
Can I just get one more kiss before we draw the line? I know you don't want anything serious, and I claim "neither do I". But as I fall into the abyss, losing all signs of day light, its another slap on the wrist, but I don't seem to mind. 'Cause you say "the risk is too high", and I just nod and agree. I could say "yes", but that's a lie, because I just want to be on the other side. I keep my thoughts to myself, and my heart at arms length. I let my guard down for no one else, unless you decide to reach. Chorus. You say to me, "Don't cross the l-i-n-e? and I said "Well, don't cross my mind". You try to tell me "That stuff's arbitrary" when I know so are mine. Chorus

Song that happens to be the same chords of MEN @ Work's "Land Down Under"
Written to capture the balance of tampering with the Friends/More than Friends.
A somewhat completely true story... |
Hide -Top
You've got your love and it's hiding. Kept away now, while I'm trying to find out where it's hidden. You can help me if your willing. 'Cause I won't leave any stone unturned, and I won't leave you alone till I've learned where you keep your love, where you keep all your happiness. All in time I will find all the love that you hide. I've been searching with a little success, seems I'm just scratching the surface. But you fool me with your straight face, you've got something in there someplace. Chorus. I've got you figured out like a new born child with a Rubick's Cube. Just when I've focused on you, somehow my vision is skewed. I'm coming after you, I'm gonna break through, but I can not tell you when. Chorus.

This song is about a positive attitude and persistance, but it almost comes off as a stalker.
"Gyration" and the whispered ending about going to "get some donuts and watch the sunrise" were a joke that stuck. I felt the beat had a R&B feel and I was joking around not realizing the RED LIGHT was on. We just had to keep it. |
Cup of Coffee -Top
The first time I saw her she was my saucer, as well as my cup. Before I knew things started to brew and soon filled up. In kicked the caffeine, I crowned her queen of my smokey café. After the first sip until the last drip things have been great. She keeps me up at night, for she's my cup of coffee. She does me right, for she's my cup of coffee. Whenever I hold her I've got to go slower to prevent a spill. With cream and with sugar, that's how I took her, and I want a refill. The aroma of her beans, the feel of her steam makes me realize that as I predicted, I'm now addicted and I can't tell you why. Chorus

Never ever had coffee.... so this one is fiction. Though I won brownie points when using this anology... worked so well, I had to put it in a song.
Ben Reddell's bass carries this song beyond the four chords... Thank you BEN! |
Lameece -Top
For no particular reason, the occasion not special at all. However, you got me feeling as though I were a hundred feet tall. My mind is just like the ocean, so vast, so open, so clear. There's nothing that I find more soothing then when I sense your presence is near. La da da da dee la da da da dee la da da dee la la la la la Lameece. La da da da dee la da da da dee la da da dee la la la la la Lameece. I hope you don't find this song sappy, no offense taken if you do. I can't help but feel happy, whenever I'm thinking of you. I wrote this while I was working, running all over the place. This song soon 'came my mantra, and a smile soon came to my face. Chorus. Take a hold of my hand. Look in my eye. You got to believe this ain't no fly-by-night. These feelings I have will not subside, unless I'm dreaming, for no reason. No reason at all.

I was waiting tables at HOUSTON'S, and it was a day where people were taking a long time to order. So as I stood at the table and waited for them to choose their sides and salad dressing... I wrote this song on the order ticket. The song was based on asomeone I knew, who had a unique name. |
Something' Else -Top
For once it all adds up. For once it all makes sense. Where once all I had was doubt, I now hold evidence, when I'm holding you. Your wind has caught all my sails, I finally understand what its like to have complete control and hold the world in my hands, when I'm holding you. 'Cause you bring out of me, something I want to be, someone I want to be. And you make it easy to be myself, I like to be myself when I'm with you girl, cause you are something else. Baby, you are something else. You've opened up both my eyes and my mind's now ajar. You've exposed me to so much life and love, you've raised the bar. When I'm holding you. Chorus. I almost forgot to mention how you bring to my attention all the things that life offers. For once it all adds up. For once it all makes sense.

This song was a turning point. The album was originally gonna be a guitar/vocal only project. My friend Kim played upright bass, and I wanted her to play on just one song. After that the piano came... then every song needed to have the "touch" of my many talented friends.
I am a big fan of 8 1/2 Souvenirs and Chrysta Bell. I wanted her to sing the duet, and luckly we had a mutual friend who opened the door. Now it all "adds up." |
Therapy -Top
Woke up this morning I was an hour late, told myself that my boss could wait 'cause I'm, I'm in love with you. Hopped in my car and the traffic was bad. The guy next to me was raging mad, but I smiled 'cause I'm, I'm in love with you. I don't need any doctors. I don't need therapy. All I need is for you to be who you are when you are with me. Yeah. I got to work but I drove past. For all I care they can fire my ass, and I hope they do, 'cause I'm in love with you. Because I, I'm in love with you. Stopped at store and I purchased a rose, for the first time I've used my nose, and that's true, 'cause I'm in love with you. Because I, I'm in love with you. Chorus. Woke up this morning I was an hour late, told myself that my boss could wait 'cause I'm, I'm in love with you.

Just a upbeat ditty, that made it because my brother liked it... and I like him. |
East Coast -Top
There's never been a more welcoming pair of arms, than the ones I have reaching for you. There's never been a more longing pair of eyes, than the ones I have searching for you. There's never been a more delicate pair of lips, than the ones I have speaking your name. There's never been a more beautiful plan ever devised, than the one I have involving... I know you must go back to the East Coast. Where I suppose my heart will somehow follow. Tagging along, stow away in your purse or in your carryon. I will carry on. Now's the time in your life when you got to decide "who am I and where do I go from here?" All the while, single file, I've been there right at your side, doing my best not to interfere. You debate, contemplate with yourself on what's fair and right, asking "what's in our greatest interest?" May I present my two cents which consists of this: "Lets just put this off until August." Chorus. Drawn to the apple much like snow white. You better be careful before you bite. 'Cause you'll never know for sure. Passed out fast asleep on the floor, then Ill have to come to New York to wake you up. I know you must go back to the East Coast. Where I suppose my heart will somehow follow. And best case scenario, Ill get an album's worth of material waiting, waiting, waiting for my heart to return.

I had a friend move away and this lead to a silly visual of a heart stowing away in a carry-on luggage.. blood all over the place.
First song with Mike Dow's awesome accordion.

Used to Believe -Top
I sit and I wait for you to come home. I don't care where you've been, and I don't want to know. 'Cause I'm tired and its late, and I don't have time to contemplate our love with you, or the shit you put me through. 'Cause I used to believe that you were everything that I'd ever need. The first time that we met, I thought the world of you. And my friends they said that I was just a fool. And they laughed, and I left to follow my pounding heart to a place where I am safe, until it fell apart. 'Cause I used to believe that you were everything that I'd ever need. One day you'll come home to find I've gone back to my friends who I thought were wrong. I t takes strength, it takes pride to say what I feel inside. And my thoughts, and my dreams need not be justified. A reason to leave seemed so hard to find. I believe I was naive and completely out of my mind. 'Cause I used to believe that you were everything that I'd ever need.

I was living in San Marcos and had written the chorus to this song, but just kept it in my back pocket... I was at a get together at my friend Sean's house, and Amy McCurdy and I wear jamming on the porch. I played the chords and she just improvised the first verse as it is now... (without knowing what I had already written). When she finished the verse, I went straight into the chorus I had in forementioned pocket, and it worked beautifully. We penned the rest in a matter of minutes. It came so easy. I think Amy rocks, and Mike Dow also rocks. Ben's bass gives me chills. |
Say G'bye -Top
This may be the hardest thing I've ever done. Make believing that this day would never come. Drowning in a sea of emotions. Dealing with a difficult decision. And it's getting harder to look you in the eye, for I haven't got the heart to stay and say "g'bye". We exchange our share of those "remember whens", Stirring up a mess of "never agains". But it seems that forever finally found its end. And for the first time in weeks we can speak like we're friends. And it's getting harder to look you in the eye, for I haven't got the heart to stay and say "g'bye".

I had a realtionship come to an end in college. It wasn't nasty or anything, it was a mutual agreement that was so civil. And this song came from the beauty of a parting that was very mature... or something like that
Only song with a real Electric Guitar on it. |
Kickin' Myself -Top
Kickin' myself again. For what I couldn't do. Choking on the words I wanted to say to you. My timing was never right, or so I would pretend. The thing that was holding me back, was the thing I was holding in. Yeah, 'cause if you know please don't speak of this info that I don't seek, 'cause I don't want to know how things might've been if I'd not let you go, if I don't know the end. Kickin' myself again. I had it all figured out, but I couldn't follow through . Now I live with regret when I'd rather live with you. I'm being hard on myself, 'cause I'm the one to blame. I spoke with someone else, they said you "might've felt the same" (she felt the same) Chorus. Tonight was gonna be the night where I'd say what I need to say. Your roommate broke the news saying you "left yesterday", that you'd gone away. Many years from now, I'll look back and I'll laugh on how I threw away the best chance I'll ever have. I'll get over you but I cannot tell you when. Until that day comes, I'll be kickin' myself again. Chorus.

All about regret... I had a crush on someone and when I finally found the nerve to say how I felt, I immediately found out that she had moved to California the day before (a week or so earlier than planned). I bumped into her roommate who indeed broke the news.
My roommate of four years sang back up on this one. Great homage to Barry White with the "She felt the same" line.
Mike Dow played triangle for a very long time in this one. |
Push Away -Top
Sometimes all it takes is a smile and a warm embrace, to push away the rain. Sometimes all you need from somebody is to feel their heat, to push away the cold. Let your rain fall, 'cause after all we're over 70% water. Maybe I'm just confused. I can't find the words to use, to push away the pain. Nothing hurts more than truth, except perhaps the loss of youth. Oh to push away getting old. Let your hair fall, cause after all it's just there for decor. Let your rain fall, cause after all we're over 70% water.

This song is for my mom. She kept putting off going to see her mother in Chicago, thinking she would go later. We convinced her that there might not be a later. She went, had a great time, and came back. The next day my grandma passed away. My dad was stil in Chicago, I was in Austin, and my mom was all alone in South Texas. I wanted to console her, but could only over the phone. I hung up and wrote this to release my urge to hug her. One of my favs. This song wasn't writtin when we started this CD. |
Kittyhawk -Top
People will point, they will laugh, they will make fun of us. Based on a thought that a lot find ridiculous, so lets get this bitch off the ground. Invested our time and our dough and many hours of sweat, only to find that the sky is the only limit, so let's get this bitch off the ground. Let's get this bitch off the ground. Enclosed by echoes of "you won't"s and "can't"s, now I expect those folks to look like ants. People will claim we're insane or something absurd. "Trying to fly in the sky, well that's just for the birds." Just like the blades of the plane my guts start to turn. To walk away now will be how I define crash and burn, so let's get this bitch off the ground. Let's get this bitch off the ground. Chorus. And I won't be satisfied until I climb into the sky, and if I happen to die, I'll be alright upon cloud nine. Forward I go, oh so slow but I'm picking up speed. Gravity's pull can't out duel the pull of my dreams, so let's get this bitch off the ground. Let's get this bitch off the ground. Chorus. And I won't be satisfied until I climb into the sky, and if I happen to die, I'll be alright upon cloud nine.

I was born December 17th, which is the same day as the Wright Brothers first flght/ I imagined what might've been going through their heads that day. Frustration and euphoria wrapped in a flight that lasted a few seconds.
Mike Dow convinced me to keep this one, despit it not really connecting with the relationship theme. I am glad we did.
There are two guitar tracks, one is slightly out of tune... used to give it the uncertainty of the times. |
